Frequently Asked Questions about books

What if the book is checked out?
If the status is listed as DUE in the UH Library Catalog, you can request that the item be returned by the borrower and put on hold for you. Click on the "Request" button located at the top of the page. You will need your myUH (Peoplesoft) ID number to complete the request.

What if the UH Library Catalog doesn't list the book I need?
If the UH Libraries does not own a copy of the book you need, we will obtain a copy of the book for you to borrow from another library. Use the Interlibrary Loan service and fill out the requested information. You will need to know the author, title, date and publication information in order to submit a complete request. If you need assistance in completing the form or locating the information, ask at the Information Desk.

You may also request that the UH Libraries purchase a copy of the book you need. Fill out the Suggest a Purchase form and the librarians will consider whether the book fits in the collection.

Can I renew my books online?
Yes. Go to the UH Catalog and click on My Account, located within the box on the upper right portion of the page to renew your books online. You will be able to renew most books. Check the due-date bookmark for further instructions.

What do I do if the book is not on the shelf?
Sometimes books can be misplaced or lost. If you do not find the book you are looking for on the shelf, stop by the Information Desk and fill out a Search and Recall Form so that we can start looking for the book. If we find it, we'll notify you when it is available to check out.
